Ninja Deployed in Mille Miglia 2012
Yes it is May and it is time for the Mille Miglia – The single most prestigious motorsport event of the year and one of the most important events in the history of motorsport.
Ninja Tracking are proud to announce that our trackers are running in the Mille Miglia and are being used by Bugatti Autos and their support team for GPS tracking. The cars look amazing and we are all very excited here at Ninja Tracking as we follow the progress of the rally.
For those of you who are not sure of the origins of this amazing event then let me give you my take on it and my appologies in advance to the aficionados if I am not 100% accurate on the history.
To condense a very interesting story into a short paragraph (we will expand as we follow the Mille Miglia 2012) the Mille Miglia was born after Montechiari (Brescia) lost the Italian Grand Prix to Monza and after Monza built a circuit in record time using designs from the Montechiari track for innovations such as the banked curve.
Everyone involved with the Montechiari and all of Brescia were insulted by the politics and decisions that saw them lose the GP and so they decided to create a unique event that would be run each year.
The Mille Melia started life as a proper race and only after tragedy struck in 1957 where 9 people were killed including 5 children was the race banned and then 30 years later the event was to continue as a ‘rally’.
That said its a pretty competitive event as a rally that is for sure.
The two cars with the Ninja Trackers are both Bugatti’s and we have set the position sending interval to 30 seconds so all the twists and turns of the Mille Miglia will be recorded. The user control panel will show the tracker in full colour in ariel view, see the panel below for the track on one of the Bugattis as it was testing around the outskirts of Brescia.
Here below we have a close up showing the buildings in great contrast, with the tracking set at 30 seconds the support crew will be able to follow progress with iPads and Smart phones whilst mobile and then analyse data from a laptop in the evening.
The rally will cover 1000 miles (approx) over its course and will set out on the 16th May heading for Rome beofre returning to Brescia. The Mille Miglia (or 1000 miles) will be hotly contested and we will be keeping a close eye on the progress of the cars.
More updates will be published as the rally makes progress, in addition we will be hoping to publish some pictures too.
The Mille Miglia is using Ninja GPS Trackers and that is a great pedigree for us, why not talk to Ninja about getting your classic cars and motorsport cars on our easy to use system.
